Biography: a career forged in Madrid bullrings

David López’s career is defined by steady progress and a strong connection to the Community of Madrid. He made his debut with picadors in October 2021 in Moralzarzal, where he immediately showed his concept by cutting an ear from a Montealto novillo. That afternoon was more than just a date on the calendar: it confirmed that he had the foundations and attitude to move forward.

In 2022 he completed his first full season as a novillero with picadors, appearing in bullrings such as Colmenar Viejo and Moralzarzal and facing demanding breeding farms like Castillejo de Huebra and Los Lastrones. It was not a season of spectacular numbers, but one of learning—exactly what a developing bullfighter needs.

The 2023 season marked a step forward. David took part in seven bullfights, all in Madrid venues, and began to leave a clear impression through solid performances. He cut ears in Moralzarzal, Colmenar Viejo and Méntrida, earning the respect of aficionados for his willingness to face a wide range of bloodlines, from Ribeiro Telles to Monte de la Ermita and Sánchez de León. He also appeared at fairs such as Guadarrama and San Agustín del Guadalix, showing that he does not shy away from challenges.

One of the most symbolic moments of his career came with his presentation at Las Ventas on 14 August 2025. That night, facing novillos from Aurelio Hernando, David delivered the standout performance of the event. With his first bull he produced his most substantial work on the right hand, showing composure, distance and correct placement. The request for an ear after the sword and the ovation from the middle tier felt like recognition. With the sixth, offering fewer options, he remained firm and drew several natural passes of real merit—quiet moments that may not cause immediate sensation, but add significant credit.

Bullfighting vocation: when passion becomes a way of life

In David López’s case, his vocation does not feel forced or rushed. There is a sense in his bullfighting of someone who has learned to listen, to wait and to build. He is not a novillero of grand gestures, but one of quiet conviction—someone who prefers to persuade pass by pass rather than look for shortcuts.

His training at Madrid’s bullfighting school is evident in his fundamentals: positioning, timing and knowledge of the ring. Equally noticeable is his constant curiosity to improve, to understand the animal and to avoid mechanical performances. David belongs to a generation that knows the road is long and that every afternoon matters—even, or especially, when there are no trophies involved.
