Biography and professional career

Sergio Domínguez “El Mella” burst onto the bullfighting scene with unusual force. His debut with picadors on 8 April 2023, in his hometown, marked the beginning of a career that has continued to grow steadily. That afternoon, facing novillos from La Cercada and Murteira Grave, he left the ring on shoulders after cutting four ears — a prelude to what would follow.

In his first season as a novillero with horses, he achieved four consecutive puerta grande triumphs, consolidating an upward trajectory that caught the attention of both aficionados and professionals. His performance in the 2023 Extremadura Novillada Circuit was decisive: he was proclaimed champion after cutting 14 ears and 3 tails in six novilladas, four of them with picadors.

In 2024 he delivered a season of remarkable consistency:

•           9 paseíllos

•           19 ears and 1 tail

•           Puerta grande triumphs in Mérida, Fuentes de León and Badajoz

•           Winner of the Rácimo de Oro in Cadalso de los Vidrios

•           Finalist in the Andalusia Circuit, reaching the final after cutting 7 ears and 1 tail in the previous rounds

His presentation in Madrid as a novillero with picadors represented a significant step forward in establishing himself as one of the most solid names in the ranking. His style — rooted in verticality, commitment and an increasingly refined sense of timing — has attracted the interest of major fairs.

Bullfighting vocation

“El Mella’s” vocation was born in the streets and bullrings of his native Extremadura. From a young age he showed a special sensitivity towards bullfighting, combined with a disciplined personality and a competitive spirit that led him to join the Bullfighting School of Badajoz.

Among the curiosities that shape his career are:

•           His nickname, “El Mella”, comes from a long-standing family moniker in Barcarrota.

•           He has always acknowledged that his inspiration comes from classic-style toreros, although his technical evolution has allowed him to develop a style of his own.

•           He stands out for his ability to rise to the occasion in major arenas, displaying remarkable composure in moments of greatest pressure.

His vocation is rooted in a clear idea: bullfighting is not merely a profession, but a way of life. That conviction is reflected every afternoon, in every muletazo, and in every opportunity he steps into the ring.
