Far from giving up, Moral has built a solid comeback, supported by important performances and total commitment every time he steps into the ring.

Biography: a leading novillero of his generation

Pepe Moral was one of the standout names on the novillero circuit in the mid-2000s. His measured style and ability to dominate demanding bull runs led him to win the prestigious Zapato de Oro in Arnedo and to top the novillero rankings in 2007.

That same year, he achieved one of the key milestones of his formative years by opening the Puerta Grande at Las Ventas as a novillero, after cutting two ears from his Guadaira bulls. That afternoon confirmed he was ready for greater challenges.

The alternativa in Seville and confirmation in Madrid

On 11 June 2009, Pepe Moral took his alternativa at the Real Maestranza of Seville, in a highly symbolic afternoon. Uceda Leal handed over the muleta, with Salvador Cortés as witness, facing bulls from Gerardo Ortega. Moral received a strong ovation and completed a lap of honour, offering clear glimpses of his bullfighting personality.

His confirmation of alternativa came during the 2011 San Isidro Festival at Las Ventas, where he again completed a lap of honour after fighting his second bull from Conde de la Corte, reinforcing his bond with the Madrid arena.

Difficult years and the courage to endure

After his first steps as a matador, Pepe Moral’s career was slowed by a lack of contracts. These were seasons of silence, of work outside bullfighting, and of constant effort to remain prepared. Far from extinguishing his vocation, this period strengthened his character and deepened his commitment to the profession.

In Madrid, even during challenging years, he left notable performances: cutting an ear in 2014 from a bull by El Torero, and scoring again in 2018 against an Adolfo Martín bull, proving that his place remained among the major arenas.

Bullfighting vocation: an unbreakable faith

Pepe Moral’s vocation is rooted in respect for the bull and a deep love of classical bullfighting. He has always defended a style free of excess, based on positioning, composure and truth. During the hardest years, he never stopped training or dreaming of wearing the suit of lights again.

That faith — both personal and professional — has been the driving force behind his return. Today, Moral is a mature bullfighter, fully aware of each opportunity and determined to make the most of it.

Recent seasons and emphatic triumphs

Pepe Moral’s resurgence is built on undeniable facts. In the 2021 season, he completed eight appearances, cutting 17 ears, one tail and achieving one bull indult — figures that reflect his current standing.

One of the most memorable moments came in Osuna, where he appeared as the sole matador and delivered a historic afternoon: he indulted a Villamarta bull and walked away with seven ears and a tail. He also triumphed emphatically in Ubrique, cutting four ears from a La Palmosilla run, and opened the main gates at arenas such as Utrera and Roa de Duero.

In Seville, he returned to the Real Maestranza, where he received an ovation that felt like recognition for an entire career built on resilience.
